We only have one pair of eyes; therefore, you need to do all you can to protect your vision by keeping your eyes healthy. Here are three tips that can help you maintain your eye health.
Tip #1. Eat a Healthy Diet
A healthy diet is essential for maintaining eye health. Including foods that contain vitamins C and E, lutein, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids in your diet is good for both your eye health and overall health. Such foods include:
- Dark green leafy vegetables like kale, spinach, and collard greens
- Oranges and other citrus fruits
- Oily fish like salmon and tuna
- Eggs, beans, and nuts
- Pork
Tip #2. Protect Your Eyes from the Sun
No matter your age, everyone should wear sunglasses while outdoors to protect your eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Too much exposure to UV rays increases your risk of developing cataracts or macular degeneration. Choose sunglasses that block at least 99% of UVA and UVB rays.
Tip #3. Stop Smoking
There are so many reasons to quit smoking. However, did you know smoking can increase your risk of developing cataracts or macular degeneration? Smoking can also cause damage to your optic nerve. Even if you have tried to stop smoking before, give it another try to protect your eyes from damage.
